Symulacje ruchu cieczy w zagadnieniach sloshingu i ruchu wody na pokładzie

A ship moving on waves is subject to the impact of loads and moments that are decisive for the ship’s movement and distribution of hull stresses. The phenomena of dynamic liquid flow, such as water flow on deck and liquid motion in partially filled holds or tanks, influence ship behaviour. In case of small vessels water on deck may lead to their sinking and inadequately designed tank structures do not withstand dynamic loads generated by motion of liquids inside the tanks.
Polish Register of Shipping developed computer programs simulating water flow on deck and water motion in partially filled tanks. The value of pressure, loads and moments generated by liquid flow are computed during the simulations. Maximum loads are determined. Polish Register of Shipping developed and compared two numerical methods under a conducted research project: D2 boundary element method and D3 method of shallow water flow. The article presents characteristics of both methods and their application in describing water motion in restricted space. Practical application of these methods is shown for simulating ship motion on waves, including water on deck and sloshing.
