The three-day Hydronav symposium, which ended on Friday, May 26, gathered in the conference room of the Eureka Hotel in Sopot scientists and experts who shared their knowledge and experience in the field of hydrodynamics, hydroacoustics, and issues related to the prevention of environmental pollution. It was the 23rd meeting of the Hydronav Symposium, organized for the first time by the Polish Register of Shipping. It's worth mentioning it has been 50 years since the first edition of the Symposium!!

During the first two days, we listened to almost thirty presentations divided thematically into panels. There were speakers from Polish and foreign universities and research centers and representatives of companies from the maritime industry who presented solutions and the results of their research. There were, among others, topics on ship resistance and propulsion, noise, hydroacoustics, hydroelasticity, maneuvering, and numerical wave modeling. Also implementing the IMO requirements regarding the energy efficiency of ships was discussed. One of the panels covered the issue related to the safety of floating offshore platform structures. Very interesting results of work on the aerodynamic resistance of kayaks or aspects of hydrodynamics in windsurfing were presented and discussed. Despite the diversity of topics, each presentation enjoyed great interest among the participants. The list of speakers and their presentations is available in the event program.

On the last, 3rd day of the Symposium, participants took part in a workshop on the IMO Interim Guidelines - The second generation intact stability criteria. The representatives of universities: PH.D. Eng. Przemysław Krata, professor at the Gdańsk University of Technology and Ph.D. Eng. Zbigniew Szozda from the Maritime University of Technology in Szczecin conducted the workshop. They discussed only part of the issues related to the guidelines developed over many years in the IMO. As part of the workshop, they described, among others, the methodology and results of their calculations regarding, for example, methods of assessing the ship's susceptibility to a stability defect related to parametric rolling.

We thank all attendees for their participation. In particular, the speakers, the chairpersons of the panels, and especially the participants of the discussions held after each lecture and during the workshop. These discussions indicate the need to exchange knowledge and the great interest in the presented topics. We hope the following Hydronav will be organized in the next two years because the Symposium brings together the shipbuilding community from the world of science but also design offices and classification societies.

Special thanks go to the Organization Committee including PRS employees for the successful organization and smooth running of this year's edition of the symposium. We also thank the representatives of the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology of the Gdańsk University of Technology for their help and cooperation at Hydronav2023.
