The shipping industry is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, making decarbonization a crucial goal for the sector.

Since 1st January 2023, the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), required by the revised 2021 MARPOL Annex VI, introduces the annual rating of operational Carbon Intensity Indicator CII and way of calculating the Energy Efficiency Existing ship Index (EEXI). To ease the preparation of required documents, class societies such as the Polish Register of Shipping are developing IT tools for computing technical and operational indexes associated with the regulations, irrespective if the vessel is under PRS classification or not.

PRS experts in the field of EEXI and CII have contributed a brief article on the subject in the latest Dry Cargo International edition.
