World Maritime Day is observed every year on the last Thursday of every September. This year, this holiday is set by the International Maritime Organization for September 29. In connection with the World Maritime Day, every year IMO  selects the theme of the year, which focuses on the importance of safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships, and highlights a particular aspect of the IMO’s work. The theme for 2022 is "New Technologies for Greener Shipping". It reflects the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future, without leaving anyone behind, and at the same time provides an opportunity to focus on the importance of a sustainable maritime sector and the need for a better, greener recovery in a post-pandemic world.

Here we provide the message of the IMO  Secretary-General, Mr. Kitack Lima, for this year's World Maritime Day.
