In the Polish Register of Shipping (PRS), internal research works are performed, aimed among the others at the development of the strength calculation algorithms. Monika Warmowska-Gadzińska, the Director for the Research and Development Division, notes: We develop our knowledge by continuing cooperation with universities, as well as through participation of our employees in working parties of such international organizations as IACS International Association of Classification Societies or ISSC International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress. We verify our solutions also participating in scientific conferences. Results of R&D works are made available in the form of specialized software to Ship Division surveyors, also internal trainings are held. Results of analyses are the basic material for new technical requirements of PRS Rules.
Between 16 and 19 of November 2020, PRS employees participated in the MARTECH 2020 Scientific Conference, which was exceptionally organised as a videoconference this year. Every two years MARTECH conference gathers worldwide experts, that work in the field of ocean engineering. During the meeting, Mateusz Jabłoński (PRS DR Division, Gdańsk University of Technology student) presented the paper related to the torsional analysis of the container ship hull, which has been co-authored by Krzysztof Wołoszyk and Marian Bogdaniuk PhD (PRS DR Division experts). The experts welcomed the presentation, and during the discussion it was noted that methodology proposed by PRS is easily applicable and properly shows the behaviour of container ship hull subjected to the torsional loading, which allows for optimal dimensioning hull structure members.
More information on the carried out analyses are presented here
The presented work is a part of the PRS project, which is focused on the development of modern structural rules for containerships.
