Polish Register of Shipping – the Expert in the Mining Plant Operation

We are pleased to inform, that on 10 January 2018 the State Mining Authority, on the basis of Article 74 and Article 72, item 22 of the Geological and Mining Law Act of 9 June 2011 (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 2126), as well as the Article 104 of the act of 14 June 1960 – the Code of Administrative Procedures (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 1257), granted the Polish Register of Shipping authorization of an expert in the mining plant operation in group 22, which involves examination of technical and organizational solutions related to prospecting, exploration and production of hydrocarbons from deposits within marine areas of the Republic of Poland.

The basis for applying for mentioned authorization was the prior issue of the Council Directive 2013/30/EU by the European Parliament, 12 June 2013, on safety of offshore oil and gas operations and amending Directive 2004/35/EC. This directive states, that countries carrying out any offshore activity are obliged to have an expertise body for assessment of hydrocarbons exploration and processing safety.

The Polish Register of Shipping S.A., having experience in carrying out surveys of the offshore drilling mining objects, has made efforts aimed at establishing closer cooperation with mining supervision bodies. Those resulted in signing, on 15 March 2017, the agreement with the State Mining Authority. The document establishes effective mechanisms for ensuring efficient activities to eliminate life, health, property and environment hazards, which are associated with works in the field of geology and mining industry, both on marine areas and land territory of the Republic of Poland.

We hope that the acquired authorization shall enable the Polish Register of Shipping S.A to extend its activity in new areas associated with exploration of hydrocarbon deposits located within marine and land areas, and to raise the safety level and environment protection.
