European Union:

Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment of 20 December 1996 (1935kB) entered into force in European Union member states from 1 January 1999.

The Directive has been amended by:

  • Directive 98/85/EC of 11 November 1998 (93kB)
  • Directive 2001/53/EC of 10 July 2001 (180kB)
  • Directive 2002/75/EC of 2 September 2002 (223kB)
  • Directive 2002/84/EC of 5 November 2002 (124kB)
  • Directive 2008/67/EC of 30 June 2008 (144kB)
  • Directive 2009/26/EC of 6 April 2009 (1492kB)

    Additional information (MarED)

    Additional information on certification of marine equipment is available on the website www.mared.org.

    This website is managed by the Group of the Notified Bodies for the Implementation of the Marine Equipment Directive (MarED), which is an organization established by the European Commission with the objective to maintain co-ordination between the bodies notified under Directive 96/98/EC and other institutions engaged in the process of the marine equipment conformity assessment.

    The above website contains i.a. data base on all the marine equipment items certified for conformity with Directive 96/98/EC.
