PRS is the most prominent candidate for regaining IACS membership

PRS is the leading candidate for membership in the International Association Of Classification, after the end of the European Commission antitrust investigations in the operations of the Association and the settlement reached on the reception of new members.

Under the settlement reached by the European Commission with the International Association of Classification Societies "IACS" for the rating late last year, the organization agreed to open the door to new members to join "IACS", provided applying organizations meet the established standards of quality, deleting the quantity criteria in future applications, which opens the way for small Classification societies to join the ten members present in the Associations.

In this context, the President of IACS Hermann Klein said that since the closure of the investigation, IACS received "a single digit number" of applications for membership, Despite the reservations mentioned the names of these classification bodies have not been published. Also the secretarial staff in "IACS" declined to comment on these requests.

On the other hand, the President of the Polish Register of Shipping Jan Jankowski assured that PRS submitted a formal request for membership IACS, after its exclusion in the year 2001.
