On 1 July 2008 the Commission Directive 2008/67/EC dated 30 June 2008 was published in Official Journal of the European Union amending Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment, having new Annex A to Directive 96/98/EC.
Directive enters into force on the 20th day after publishing.
Member States are obliged to adopt and publish, by 21 July 2009, laws,
regulations and administrative provisions necessary to fulfill the directive
requirements and to apply its provisions from 21 July 2009.
Equipment described in column ‘Item designation’ of Annex A.1 as ‘New item’
or as ‘Moved from Annex A.2 to Annex A.1’ , which was produced before 21 July
2009 and according to the procedures for type approval being in force on the
Member State’s territory before that date, may be placed on the market or used
as equipment of the Community ship during the period of two years after that
date.
