On February 26, Polish Register of Shipping and Tianjin XinGang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd (China) signed an Agreement concerning construction supervision of two 38 000 dwt double hull bulk carriers built under the Contract signed between the Chinese shipyard and Polish Steamship Company.
The new vessels, as the thirteenth and fourteenth in the series of newbuildings for Polish Steamship Co., will have dual PRS and ABS class. The first four vessels; m/v Kujawy, m/v Mazury, m/v Podhale and m/v Warmia were delivered in 2005, with subsequent ships still under construction.
The new vessels are part of POLSTEAM’s development programme. By 2015, the Company’s bulk carrier fleet is assumed to gain additional 34 ships. Polish Register of Shipping takes part in supervising most of the bulker newbuildings, consolidating PRS position of a classification society closely cooperating with the biggest Polish shipowner.
Supervision of newbuildings for Polish Steamship Co. and Chipolbrok show the presence of PRS in China and undoubtedly enhances the Society’s image of a reliable and interesting partner for contractors on the dynamic Chinese market.
