Inflatable rescue boats

Inflatable rescue boats shall be stored in fully inflated condition at all times (moved from the LSA Code)

III/19.3.3.4

Drills using free-fall lifeboats

At least every three months the free-fall lifeboat shall be boarded and either free-fall launched with operating crew or launched by falls with or without operating crew onboard and then manoeuvred in the water.

 

At least every six months the free-fall lifeboat shall be free-fall launched or simulated launching (as described in MSC.1/Circ.1206) shall be carried out.

 

MSC.1/Circ.1207recommends early implementation of this amended regulation.

III/20.4

Launching appliances’ wire falls

The requirement for end-for-ending of wire falls has been removed. Instead maintenance of falls used in launching shall be periodically inspected (as described in MSC.1/Circ.1206) and renewed when necessary or at least every 5 years, whichever is earlier.

III/20.6.2

Weekly running of rescue boats’ outboard engines

For outboard engine for rescue boats that can not be run for three minutes without its propeller submerged “it should be run for such period as prescribed in the manufacturers’ handbook” is replaced by “a suitable water supply may be provided”.

Servicing of inflated rescue boats

“maintenance and repair” is added for inflated rescue boats in the heading of the paragraph.

Periodic testing of launching appliances

Clarification that the  dynamic winch brake tests also apply to liferaft’s and rescue boats’ launching appliances.
