On 26 April 2006, a seminar “Main aspects of the construction and classification survey of the LNG ships” was held in the PRS SA Head Office, Gdańsk. Representatives of technical universities, research institutes, shipyards, shipowners, shipping foundations and PRS employees participated in the seminar.

Mr Zbigniew Wysocki, Undersecretary on Maritime Economy in the Ministry of Transport and Construction was also present.

Dr Jan Jankowski, the President of the PRS SA Board, chaired the seminar.

The following papers have been presented in the first part:

• Antoni Rylke, M.Sc. eng., Gdynia Shipyard
  Prospects of LNG ships construction in the Gdynia Shipyard,

• Jan Pilarczyk, prof. dr eng., Welding Institute, Gliwice
  Welding of materials for LNG tanks,

• Tadeusz Borzęcki, dr eng, Technical University, Gdańsk
  Sea transport of earth gas in pressure tanks (CNG).

After the brake, filled with a hot discussion of the participants, the following papers were delivered:

• Norbert Puchaczewski, dr eng., Polski Rejestr Statków
  PRS classification supervision of LNG ships construction,

• Andrzej Osiadacz, prof. dr eng., Technical University, Warszawa
  LNG terminal and building up the domestic system of earth gas transmission..

After presentation of papers, a discussion has been initiated and led by the President of PRS S.A. Board. Questions were asked to all lecturers. All the papers and comments presented during the discussion will be included in a separate publication of PRS.

Mr Zbigniew Wysocki ended the seminar to stress, among other aspects, a huge research potential and professional experience of seminar participants.
