Approval of Welders
According to PRS Rules, the welding of structures and arrangements subject to
PRS’ survey can only be performed by welders holding valid PRS qualification
certificates.
The condition for admission to PRS welder’s qualification test
is minimum six months of professional experience as a welder and the documented
job knowledge. Following satisfactory result of the practical and the job
knowledge tests, Welder’s qualification certificate is issued, by PRS, to
the welder and an appropriate entry is made in the Welder’s Book.
Welder’s qualification certificate is issued for a two years period
commencing with the date of the practical test. The Welder’s qualification
certificate remains valid subject to the employer’s welding operations
supervisor confirmation, made every six months, that the welder has carried out
welding operations within the range of qualification and entered in the
Welder’s qualification certificate. The lack of such confirmation entry
will result in the welder’s qualification expiry, regardless of the Welder’s
qualification certificate validity.
The testing of welders to be qualified by PRS is carried out in
the presence of PRS’ Surveyor, supervising the test, representing the relevant
PRS Branch Office/ Survey Station/Representative. At the Client’s request, the
testing of welders may be held at the client’s firm or at centres/firms
specially prepared for that purpose.
Detailed information relating to conditions for admission to
welder’s qualification test, conducting the test and the issue of qualification
certificates is given in PRS Rules – Publication 3/P, the 2006 edition (based on
