Retroactive requirements of SOLAS 74 Convention regarding fire protection for passenger ships carrying more than 36 passengers and constructed before
1 October 1994
Until 1 October 2010, existing passenger ships shall comply with retroactive requirements of Amendments to Chapter II-2 of SOLAS Convention, Regulation 41-1/2.4 – Upgrading of passenger ships carrying more than 36 passengers constructed before 1 October 1994, adopted by Res. MSC.24(60) on 10 April 1992.

8 month transitional period in EU regulations on low sulphur fuel in
European ports With reference to the EU Directive 2005/33/EC effective on
January 1st, 2010, whereby ships at berth in European Union community ports
shall use only marine fuels with maximum 0.1% sulphur content, the European
Commission accepted on 21 December 2009 accepted "Commission
Recommendation on the safe implementation of the use of low sulphur fuel by
ships at berth in Community ports" to grant an eight-month transitional period
to ships which have not yet made the necessary technical modifications to
facilitate consumption of such fuels.

New limitations on sulphur content in marine fuels - New requirements for ship owners and associated hazards
As a ship owner bears the sole responsibility for ensuring that the ship
installations use low sulphur marine fuels required by the regulations
specified by the EC (see Council Directive 1999/32/EC as further amended),
International Maritime Organization (Annex VI to MARPOL Convention) and by
national regulations of other countries (California state of USA), Polski
Rejestr Statków S.A. recommends, that before commencement of operation of
any auxiliary installations using such a fuel, ship owners should contact
their manufacturer.
